DTN COMMENTS: Cash cattle country is very quiet this afternoon, and it
is looking like the bulk of business is essentially completed for the
week. Although a little cleanup may be reported by Mandatory later this
afternoon. This week a light trade was reported in the North with dressed
deals done at mostly $356, $1 lower than last week's weighted average,
basis Nebraska. Southern live deals have been marked at mostly $229, $2
higher than last week's weighted average basis Kansas. Private sources
reported live deals in Texas also at $229.
Today's slaughter is not available from the USDA as of yet. Cattle
futures closed sharply higher on both live, up 95 to 117 feeder cattle,
up 32 to 192 contracts. Beef cutouts are expected to close lower with
light to moderate box movement.
